National Family Mediation (NFM) — a major mediation network

REVIEWED BY: Sean McNamara on 2026-08-27

What this service is

National Family Mediation (NFM) is one of the largest networks of not-for-profit family mediation services in England and Wales, with local member services in many towns and cities. Its mediators are FMC-accredited and take part in the £500 voucher scheme.

What they offer

  • Mediation Information and Assessment Meetings (MIAMs) — the first step before most court applications
  • Mediation for child arrangements, property and money issues
  • Legal-aid mediation at participating services (means-tested)
  • Remote (video) mediation in many areas

How to use them

1. Find your nearest NFM service via nfm.org.uk (or search the FMC register for all options) 2. Book a MIAM — around £120 per person if you pay; free with legal aid if eligible 3. If mediation proceeds, the £500 voucher (eligible child cases) is applied by your mediator

YourFamilyCase lists NFM as one significant network among many — always compare with the FMC register for your area; we take no payment from any provider.
