Citizens Advice — Croydon: family court support for self-representing families
REVIEWED BY: Sean McNamara on 2026-08-27
What this service is
Citizens Advice Croydon is the local independent charity in the national Citizens Advice network serving the London Borough of Croydon. It gives free, confidential, independent and impartial advice — including family matters (separation, child arrangements, domestic abuse) alongside the benefits, debt and housing problems that come with them.
How to use it
1. National guidance first: citizensadvice.org.uk has the full family advice library 2. Adviceline (London): 0800 278 7834 — free phone advice; check the local page for hours 3. Drop-in / appointment: the Croydon office operates triage then appointments — check current access on their local page before travelling 4. Webchat on the national site for quick questions
What they can and cannot do
- ✅ Explain options, help with court paperwork, refer to specialist services (including domestic-abuse support and legal-aid solicitors), help with related debt/benefits
- ❌ They do not represent you in court and do not give legal advice on strategy
How it fits your family court case
Croydon is home to one of London's busiest family courts (see our Croydon court guide). Use Citizens Advice before you file (options, MIAM, fees) and alongside your case (paperwork, money problems). For in-court support, see our Support Through Court — Croydon page.
