Citizens Advice — Camden: family court support for self-representing families

REVIEWED BY: Sean McNamara on 2026-08-27

What this service is

Citizens Advice Camden is the local independent charity in the national Citizens Advice network serving the London Borough of Camden. Like every Citizens Advice, it gives free, confidential, independent and impartial advice — including on family matters such as separation, child arrangements, and domestic abuse, alongside the benefits, debt and housing problems that often come with them.

Who it helps

Anyone living or working in Camden who needs advice — including parents navigating the family court process without a solicitor.

How to use it

1. Check the national Citizens Advice website first (citizensadvice.org.uk) — it has the full plain-English family guidance library. 2. Contact the Camden service via the national Adviceline 0800 144 8848 (England) or the local Camden contact routes published on their page, or use webchat. 3. Ask for an adviser appointment if your problem needs more than one session — family and form-filling help is commonly delivered by appointment after triage.

What they can and cannot do

  • ✅ Explain your options, help you understand court paperwork, refer you to specialist help (including domestic-abuse services and legal-aid providers), help with related benefits/debt.
  • ❌ They do not represent you in court and do not give legal advice on what to plead.

How it fits your family court case

Use Citizens Advice at the start (understand options, MIAM, fees) and alongside your case (help with the paperwork, and with the money/housing problems that family breakdown causes).
